The development of server-side applications goes through some radical changes these days, challenged by the requirements of modern-day web and messaging architectures. In contrast to traditional application servers with central management and monitoring, modern system layouts adapt to the elastic capabilities of cloud deployment technologies such as Amazon Web Services and Docker. But it’s not just about the “cloud”, it’s also about “microservices”: Fine-granular, individually scalable services replace monolithic system architectures in many places, even in traditional data centers.
